A Prayer Asking God to Live in Us

This is a prayer from the Book of Hours in the 16th century:

God be in my head,

and in my  understanding;

God be in my eyes,

and in my looking;

God be in my mouth,

and in my speaking;

God be in my heart,

and in my thinking;

God be in my end,

and at my departing.

Here are few biblical quotes that encourage us to pray in just this way:

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.  Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and branch that bears fruit, He prunes it, that it may bear more fruit.”  (John: 15:1-2 NASB)

“…that secret purpose hidden for long ages and through many generations, but now disclosed to God’s people.  To them he chose to make known what a wealth of glory is offered to the Gentiles in this secret purpose:  Christ in you, the hope of glory.”  (Colosssians 1:26-27, Revised English Bible)
